July -25th & 27th - Joanna Durney Sanz ~ opening 25th July, 5.30 - 7.30pm
This exhibition of expressive and sensitive artworks features the artist’s life drawings and large painted works combining the figure with abstract backgrounds.
A focus of the exhibition is the authenticity and integrity of the human body and the way it expresses states of mind and emotions, connection and disconnection.
The life drawings are the result of constant, timed drawing practice, training the hand and eye and capturing the model's pose and presence. You will see several different media employed in the creation of the life drawings on display including soft pastel, charcoal, ink and colour pencil.
The larger works represent the artist's current area of interest, combining intuitive abstract paintings with the figure as a way of bringing strangeness to the familiar and exploring relationships, memory and identity.
