What happens in the gallery between exhibitions and events?

As you may be aware, the gallery was architecturally designed to work with and celebrate natural light. Anyone who has visited the gallery would agree that the light is a feature of the space. I can recall many exhibitions where the light playfully danced across the walls as it filtered through the leaves of the Murraya tree.

Such light proves to be a wonderful muse for my own work. With this, between exhibitions, whilst still open by appointment, the gallery becomes my studio. As I have multiple paintings on the go at any given time, the space allows for an opportunity to literally stand back and evaluate. You could say that the paintings generate their own conversations, at times one series influences the other. Having space to visualise a sizeable commissioned painting as an initial study (as featured below) and subsequently have the client view the proposed work is such an affirming experience.

So grateful to have the opportunity for clients to view art studies for commissioned paintings. Both Brett and his partner Georgia have a love of their local bushland and could not decide on a particular location so we arranged a bush walk and visit to the intended space for the painting. Both experiences add substantially to meeting the expectations of the client. I was then able to draw upon multiple elements in order to translate Brett and Georgia’s connection to the landscape.

As much as I am looking forward to our monthly exhibitions kicking off this March, it has been a joy to work within the gallery space. Please feel free to book in between events to view our Gallery 11:11 Artists work and works in progress.
