About Mathew Weatherstone and his upcoming workshop ~ THE LIGHT IN THE LANDSCAPE 10-4, SUNDAY 24TH MARCH 2024

About Matthew Weatherstone ~ Artist

Matthew is a dedicated visual artist and art educator driven by a passion for understanding, capturing and expressing that which is seen and experienced. A firm believer in the transformative, enriching and therapeutic dimensions of creating, experiencing and engaging with others through art.

The immersive landscape paintings by Matthew Weatherstone are a contemplation of nature as both an allegory and object of inquiry, revealed and obscured by light, distance and darkness. The atmospheric depictions also represent an ongoing investigation into all that may be discerned, concerning broader reality and experience, from the patterns and principles observed in the natural world.

Matthew is a Senior Tutor at Sydney Art School. He is a qualified trainer and assessor and holds an

About the workshop:

Workshops at Gallery 11:11 are based on inclusivity. All workshop facilitators are expected to differentiate between beginner and experienced artists. The space allows for 8 participants.

This workshop is centred around the visual perception and experience of light and colour in the landscape, and the painting approaches that may be used to capture one’s observations and impressions.

The workshop will focus on colour and light theory, subject selection and composition, paint handling and brushwork, and the use of direct painting techniques to convey the sense of light and colour. The session will be inspired by the local landscape of Lane Cove National and the palette of the Australian bush, but will be relevant to all who seek to capture the beauty of the natural world.

Aimed at intermediate artists but also suitable for beginners.
