This heavily tactile painting pays tribute to Mary and Arthur’s remarkable local garden—an exuberant blend of botanical precision and sculptural freedom. Mary’s meticulous eye shapes every detail, from exacting plant choices to the garden’s living architecture. I have chosen to also plant my favourite flowers in this garden; flannel flowers and hydrangeas which have personal meaning.

Using palette knife and a range of paint mediums, I have aimed to built a surface that rises and falls like the garden itself. The tactile layers of cadmium, alizarin, and viridian echo the couple’s daily labor and unwavering care. Touch the canvas and you feel their devotion made physical: deliberate, textured, alive.
